Hi I'm confused - what is this chart based on?
American charts are very confusing, I'm from Australia and am following Gotye's progress in America - while he is #31 on the Hot 100 he's actually #18 on digital sales (why don't sales count more than radio play?). What is the Rick Dees charts based on? Sales? Or just radio play? Or a little of both? I used to listen to Rick Dees American top 40 on Australian Radio in the 90's but now I'm confused as to if the chart was based on sales? When I look on wikipedia a songs peak in the US is normally what it reached on Rick Dees, but I notice in 2001 Kylie Minogue reached #3 on Rick Dees but #7 as a US peak on wikipedia. Is anyone able to tell me how positions on Rick Dees are worked out ?
