News sources now confirm that award-winning singer Whitney Houston died this afternoon in Los Angeles. Houston was found in her room at the Beverly Hilton hotel by a member of her entourage and called hotel security, who then dialed 911. Houston was found unresponsive when paramedics arrived.

TMZ reports that police arrived to the scene within minutes and fire was already there on an unrelated call. According to sources, paramedics performed CPR but it did not work. Houston was pronounced dead at 3:55 PM PST.

Our sources say there were no obvious signs of foul play, but Beverly Hills Police detectives have begun a full investigation. SShe was ID'ed by family and friends.

The troubled singer famously battled drug addiction for years.

Houston was seen out in Hollywood on Thursday night, giving an impromptu performance at the Tru Hollywood nightclub. Upon leaving the club she did not look good.

Whitney has battled drug addiction for years. Her death is currently under investigation.
