The Weekly Top 40’s Rick Dees Tells America to “Get Your Boots On”
The legendary Rick Dees is best-known for the internationally syndicated radio show, The Rick Dees Weekly Top 40®. With his recognizable voice, the host wears many hats in the entertainment industry, including comedic performer, radio personality and entertainer, and now, he wears a brand new pair of shoes to complete the wardrobe— the Boot Campaign’s signature combat boots from Altama.
Starting in the business when he was 17 years old, Dees not only worked at various radio stations throughout the country, but he wrote and recorded “Disco Duck,” a tune that can be heard in the classic 1977 film “Saturday Night Fever” starring John Travolta. Soon after, he began his famed Weekly Top 40 Countdown in September of 1983, and he’s been entering listeners’ homes and cars ever since. Now, Rick Dees’ Weekly Top 40 is heard on terrestrial radio stations reaching coast to coast in the United States and throughout five continents worldwide, on U.S. military bases and ships at sea around the globe, as well as on Dees’ official website, www.Rick.com.
He first heard about the Boot Campaign from some military acquaintances who said he needed to check out what the Texas ladies were up to. “I have to be honest, I love the military,” Dees said. “I have a very, very deep, warm feeling for women and men who will go out and put their lives on the line for us. The least I could do was to use the world-wide reach of our radio shows to spread the message of the Boot Girls! So I got my boots on, and it’s the most fun I have ever had!”
Dees—who has a direct military connection through his father who served as an Army Captain in World War II—revealed that the boots are comfortable, and once he put them on, he wanted to go running in the leather pieces.
" [They’re] very lightweight, even though they are leather, but the components used are all of the highest technology, and you want to wear these,” Dees explained. “They feel good and make a statement…you get the feeling of, ‘I’m part of the force, part of the team.’”
Dees’ interview with Boot Girls Mariae and Ginger aired on The Weekly Top 40 the weekend of Oct. 9, and is now featured on the radio host’s website , along with behind-the-scenes footage and photos.

About the Boot Campaign
Known as “the Boot Girls,” Ginger, Leigh Ann, Sherri, Heather and Mariae banned together one fateful night in Tyler, Texas to launch The Boot Campaign giving gratitude and appreciation for the American military. The initiative is quickly gaining awareness with the repertoire of boot images expanding every day. The Boot Girls ask Americans to put their boots on during the routine of daily life to symbolically walk in the shoes of our military men and women, remembering their service and sacrifice. The Campaign’s signature boots are available for purchase online with proceeds benefitting organizations like The Lone Survivor Foundation.

Special Note from the Boot Campaign
“To all of our Boot supporters, we would just like to say that you’re amazing! We love you! Through your busy boot-buying escapades over the past few months, the Boot Campaign has raised more than $125,000 for America’s heroes! And that dollar amount keeps rising! As you know, we're donating those charitable funds to our friends at the USO and the Lone Survivor Foundation who will use the money to take care of our veterans with the most pressing needs. Thank you, friends, for ‘Gettin’ Your Boots On!’”
