Alec Baldwin: New York Mayor?

Alec Baldwin For Mayor?

Could Alec Baldwin be going from “30 Rock” to City Hall? It’s a definite possibility!

Alec shared that he’ll run for mayor of New York City now that disgraced Rep. Anthony Weiner’s mayoral aspiration exploded amid a sext scandal.

“It’s a long way till November of 2013,” the actor posted on Twitter Wednesday afternoon, hours after reports surfaced that he was considering a mayoral run.

Earlier, his spokesman told the Daily News that the Emmy Award-winning actor was considering a run.

“I wouldn’t rule it out,” said Baldwin’s spokesman, Matthew Hiltzik.

Baldwin has long mulled the possibility of running for office, but has previously said it would be difficult to leave acting.

“Yes, it’s something that I am very, very interested in,” Baldwin told CNN in January. “People would say to me all the time, ‘Why would you want to do that?’ And sometimes I don’t want to do it because to leave what I am doing now would be extremely painful.”

Weiner, who had been viewed as a front-runner until the salacious scandal erupted, hasn’t said what he plans to do in 2013, when Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s term expires. Baldwin weighed in on the Weiner controversy Tuesday on Twitter, insisting the congressman “should not resign.”

Other names that have been floated for Hizzoner are City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, former city Controller Bill Thompson, City Controller John Liu and Public Advocate Bill de Blasio.
If Baldwin decides to run, the timing would work out in his favor. He announced last year that he’d leave NBC’s “30 Rock” in 2012 when his contract expires.
